Set just off the quieter streets near the waterfront in Napoli, this trattoria offers a calm retreat from the city's buzz. Visitors tend to come here for traditional Italian dishes served in modest portions—think straightforward antipasti, classic pasta, and simple yet satisfying main courses, with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. The family-run atmosphere casts a gentle, old-fashioned charm, shaped by the presence of an older couple who oversee the service and kitchen, alongside a younger waiter eager to learn the craft.
The dining experience is relaxed and unhurried, suited to solo diners, small groups, and families alike. While the setting is casual and quietly welcoming, the place can feel a bit restrained, with a limited menu that favors quality over variety. People who appreciate meals grounded in tradition—paired with regional wines, lively spirits, or a strong coffee—tend to find it a comfortable choice. At times, the mood may feel slightly subdued, where attentive service is the steady thread holding the experience together.
Those who visit value the simplicity and the local vibe, often stopping by for lunch or dinner that’s more about genuine home-style flavors than flashy presentations. The spot accommodates varied needs well, from wheelchair accessibility to parking, and accepts modern payments, which adds to its understated practicality. If you’re looking for a straightforward, no-frills place to enjoy familiar Italian fare in a neighborhood setting, this quietly rooted spot might be worth a visit.

"Cozy place, Warm people, tasty food - fresh fish, good wine, best tiramisu ever!"
"Very cosy little family restaurant with excellent foods and service."
"Homemade italian food and very nice owners, good prices, highly recommend!"
4 We have been eating here twice a year for several years now. Always good quality and fresh. This last visit in January 2026 was very different. The menu was limited and our starter of Octopus was very chewy as if cooked twice. The fish course was good, the wine good, Tiramisu good but the atmosphere rather different. Other than the always attentive waiter no one seemed to care. Possibly a post Christmas / New Years reaction but disappointing.
5 Trattoria is run by an elderly couple. Traditional Italian fare. Support if you can.
5 Trattoria da Giovanni in Napoli. If you are a foodie and want to try an amazing meal at a very reasonable price ... try this 4th generation family run restaurant that's been around since 1936. You will be greated by the grandmother, the son is the chef, served by Antonio (who we thought was the grandson but maybe not ....but he just graduated and wants to go to school to be a chef) and pay the bill with the grandfather. We had the lasagna and seafood linguine and finished with the Tiramisu. Going again tomorrow night as our lunch today at the hotel was 2x the price of our diner here! And honestly the food was so good we want to try more of the menu. I helped my family run restaurants so I can say this place is special! Day 2 additional notes... came a second night. We started with a mixed salad with a simple salt and oil dressing. Who knew such simple ingredients would be so good! My wife had to have the lasagna again. I had the Fettuccine alla Bolognese (incredible) and the Cotoletta alla Milanese [like a schnitzel) and cooked to perfection. Second night and we had to have the best Tiramisu we have ever had... again! Support a generational family business with quality authentic food at incredible prices!
5 The super cosy atmosphere of a family run place with two elderly owners supervising the young waiter was borderline cliché in the most positive way imaginable. There are only a few options in each category (antipasti, primi, secondi, dolce) but enough for everyone to pick something they might like. We had the pickled anchovies, lasagna and pasta with tomato sauce. The highlight was the lemon sorbet inside the actual lemon as is usual around Napoli.
5 We went because of the reviews. Place is very nice and cozy, food is ok. But when you realized that they even have the main door locked you start feeling that you aren’t in a very safe area. Make sure you go before dinner time
4 If you dare to venture into this dodgy neighbourhood you may find this traditional old style Italian trattoria. It simple and rustic. Frankly speaking I wasn’t impressed with pasta, including seafood one. Mussels were cold on pasta. Veggie lasagna was quite good as well as local wine. The service was pleasant and desserts were delicious (would recommend lemon sponge cake). The good thing that unlike many of places in Napoli it is open for dinner before 19.00
5 After a long day in Capri, we went to this restaurant for dinner, and I have to say—it was the perfect way to end the day. The waiter was incredibly kind, and the atmosphere felt truly authentic and family-oriented, which makes sense since it’s run by a family. The food was delicious, perfectly seasoned, and the portions were just right. Both the prices and the portion sizes were very fair. Compared to many tourist-trap spots in the city center, this place offers a peaceful meal without anyone pushing you to order more. P.S.: Don’t be put off by the neighborhood if it looks a bit rough at first—we hesitated too, but it was absolutely worth it!
5 Amazing restaurant in an older part of the city, seems to be family run for many years and the food quality is outstanding. The lasagna was some of the best I've ever had. Make sure you come by here to have some fantastic food and quality service.
